HOW IT ALL STARTED

SINCE THE EARLY YEARS

Don Mahmood is a serial entrepreneur and the founder of several businesses, including Decision 168, z2 Squared, MedSmarter, and Eklectik Ventures (which includes Eklectik Genes Clothing Co. and Eklectik Window Fashions). Born in Lahore, Pakistan, Don immigrated to the United States with his family of seven at the age of six.

Don’s journey as an entrepreneur began when he was just 14 years old, mowing lawns and cleaning yards for his neighbors. He soon enlisted the help of a few friends to start his first venture, a yard cleaning and maintenance service. However, this early success was not without its challenges. Don recalls getting into trouble for selling candy to other students when he was in grade school.

Don’s family history also played a significant role in shaping his entrepreneurial spirit. His father was a businessman, and Don worked with him from an early age, learning the ins and outs of running a successful enterprise.

In 1990, Don took a family trip back to Lahore, Pakistan, which proved to be a life-changing experience. It was during this trip that he realized his true calling was to become an entrepreneur, with the intention of helping others and achieving a work-life balance that would allow him to spend more time with his family.

For Don, building relationships has always been a top priority, and his father’s advice to “put yourself in a position to help others” has been a guiding principle throughout his career. This mindset has also given him a deep sense of empathy for the struggles that people face in their daily lives, particularly in the current and  post pandemic environment.

Don’s passion for entrepreneurship has led him to found multiple successful businesses that prioritize relationships and empathy. From Decision 168 to z2 Squared to MedSmarter and beyond, Don’s entrepreneurial spirit continues to thrive, making a positive impact on the lives of those around him.

PRINCIPLES.
EVERY DECISION MATTERS.

“Learning is not enough, you have to execute what you’ve learned to move towards success. The choices we decide to make today decide where we will be in the future.”

01. CLARITY.

Ideas in your head are dreams; when written down, they are goals. Develop a clear plan of action with identified tasks, completion target dates, assigned resources, and accountabilities.

03. CONSISTENCY.

Too many times people accept failure without understanding that failure is a necessary ingredient for growth. Work towards your plan consistently to achieve success.

“Why do we fall Master Bruce, so we can learn to pick ourselves up” – Alfred Pennyworth

02. DISCIPLINE.

Implement the disciplines required to achieve your goals. It’s not going to be easy, EVER! If it is, then you aren’t challenging yourself enough. Fall, learn, get up and move forward.

SKILLS.
RESULTS DRIVEN APPROACH.

“Get to know what you don’t, that’s how you grow.”

  • BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT 90% 90% 90%
  • LOGISTICS 78% 78% 78%
  • MANAGEMENT 93% 93% 93%
  • SOURCING 85% 85% 85%

BALANCE IS A KEY INGREDIENT.

“Choose the life you want and then work your tail off to get it. You must find happiness in the journey to live the life you want. Nothing worthwhile is easy and that’s what makes accomplishments so much sweeter.”

PEOPLE.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

“Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.” –Andrew Carnegie

KATEY KOWAL

“I’ve worked with Don on and off for 3-4 years now, and he was an excellent counterpart for myself/team. He helped the technical pieces of our project stay on task, and ensured we had anyone necessary engaged for us to make progress. He has a great work ethic, and a positive attitude even throughout the multiple obstacles that we encountered together. One quality I appreciated the most is his commitment and loyalty to not only the company he worked for but also for my team/company, it was truly a great partnership.”

STAFFAN LINDSTROM

“I have worked with Don for several years on complex large-scale Hospital interface projects. Don’s strength is his ability to communicate clearly, documentation and his ability to drive these technical conversion projects to meet milestones and timelines. His experience is key to ensuring this happens time and time again. On top of that, he has a great sense of humor which makes him someone everyone wants on his team.”

“MY “WHY” IS THAT I GENUINELY LIKE TO HELP PEOPLE, BECAUSE I REALLY BELIEVE THAT IF I HAD THE SUPPORT THAT I AM WILLING TO GIVE OUT AT THE TIME WHEN I NEEDED IT MOST, THINGS WOULD BE ENTIRELY DIFFERENT.”
